Andrea Scacchi - biography

Andrea Scacchi was born in Como where he studied cello with Paolo Beschi. He graduated with flying colours in 1995 at the Conservatorio "G. Verdi" in Como under Guido Boselli. After having graduated he continued studying with M.Brunello, E.Dindo, J.Goritzki, S.Palm and the Trio di Trieste.

In 1996 he was awarded First Prize at the International Festival "Villa Medicea" for duo performance together with pianist M.Hasegawa and the "F.Terraneo" Prize for best graduated from the Como Conservatory. In 1998 Milan's Rotary Club awarded Andrea Scacchi with the prestigious "M.Koliqi" Prize for young soloists and in 2000 he received the Diploma with Merit of Accademia Musicale Chigiana from the Trio di Trieste.
In 2006 Mr. Scacchi won the International Prize for Arts as best string player from Italians Academies.

From 2001 to 2006 he collaborated with the Orchestra of Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Andrea Scacchi has worked as Principal Cellist of Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano G.Verdi, I Solisti di Pavia, U.E.C.O, and Bergamo "Musica Festival" Orchestra. He has also been invited by Teatro alla Scala Orchestra to be assistant principal cellist and he participated in the final round of auditions for the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Opernhaus in Zurich, Simfonica de Barcelona orchestras.

He was invited to participate in prestigious musical seasons including Les Rencontres de Louvergny in France, Società dei Concerti and Serate Musicali in Milan, Todi Festival, Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Festival Internazionale di Brescia e Bergamo, Festival "Milano Milhaud", Associazione Musicale Romana, Società Fioravanti di Prato, Amici della Musica - Regione Sicilia, Gioventù Musicale Italiana, Baveno Festival, and Settimane Musicali di Stresa, playing with Enrico Dindo.
He has collaborated in chamber ensembles such as Ensemble Il Ruggiero (New York-1999), Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, Ensemble Nuove Sincronie, Ensemble Traiettorie Sonore, Tactus Ensemble, Milano Cello Quartet (recording live for Italian Nationale Radio "Radio3 suite") and Quartetto Arriaga (recording a CD of contemporary music edited by Sincronie).

As a soloist he performed some of the finest cello solo repertoire (Bach, Dall'Abaco, Cassadò, Hindemith, and Sollima) in Festival Mito 2009 and Baveno Festival.
As a premiere performance, he performed "Freedom" by the composer Giacomo Manzoni, dedicated to Jimi Hendrix, for cello and electronics.
He performed some Vivaldi cello concertos with the "United Europe Chamber Orchestra" and "Accademia Filarmonica Italiana" and the Schumann cello concert with the Orchestra Filarmonia Veneta, Como Conservatory Orchestra and Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano G. Verdi.
In 2008 he performed the Concerto Grosso for 3 cellos and orchestra by Penderecki, with the cellists Enrico Bronzi and Shirai Grigolato and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano G. Verdi, directed by the composer.

Today Andrea Scacchi teaches at the "G.F. Ghedini" Conservatory in Cuneo (Italy) and also conducts masterclasses around Italy. He plays a Marino Capicchioni cello from 1956.
